On the guitar for Beagle Creek Bluegrass is Doug Hatt, the bands newest member. Doug’s pounding rythym guitar drives the band behind his lead vocals and harmony work. He has brought with him a catalog of songs composed of his early influences as well as his own original pieces.
Doug began his musical journey as a youngster alonside his two older brothers playing in church and writing the occasional song. He discovered bluegrass and mountain music years later when as a happy accident he stumbled upon a burgeoning bluegrass scene in the quaint little fishing village of Brooklyn, NY. Here Doug founded the new york bluegrass brunch which he anchored, along with several nationally renowned pickers, for the next twelve years.
In 2018, with his wife Virginia from Kentucky and his two children Doug made it Northern Kentucky where they now reside with their stalwart lab/hound dog Archie Griffin. Doug spent four years fronting the Licking Pike Ramblers and he is also currently with the trio Fresh Baked Bluegrass which includes beagle fiddler Trina Emig and occasional beagle big Jim Gaub. He has a penchant for hats.
Jeff Trauth
Mandolin/Lead Vocals/Backup Vocals
Jeff Trauth’s origin is a murky mystery that combines a touch of mythology and a tinge of modern day santeria. He sprung forth fully formed when, in the midst of a generational electric storm, a lightning bolt struck and obliterated the oldest maple tree in the forest. The electric maple man, as some know him, is always ready to explore new avenues of music with his mandolin. He is also tolerably good to travel with and he usually doesn’t wash his socks in the sink.
Trina Emig
Fiddle/Lead Vocals/Backup Vocals
Trina Emig, a relative newcomer to the fiddle, is veteran of the bluegrass scene both locally and nationally. Playing music professionally since the age of nineteen she is part of the very fabric of the tradition. She also upholds another bluegrass tradition of fussing at your instrument and her fiddle, which is nicknamed the little devil, will often be on the recieving end of a scolding. Trina is a consumate musician and all who watch her consider themselves lucky. Check out some of her other work here
John Young
Banjo/Lead Vocals/Backup Vocals
John Young plays the five string banjo. A northern kentucky native, he began the learning from friend and local banjo instructor Jeff Roberts. He also credits Mr Gene Thompson as a guiding influence in his formative years of playing. He once saved a cat who had fallen down a chimney.Lyle Kelley
Bass Fiddle/ Lead Vocals/Backup Vocals
Lyle is the newest member of the Beagle Creek Bluegrass Band although one could never tell from listening. His rock solid bass playing thumps a beat to which the rest of the band falls in line. Coming most recently off of a stint with the Licking Pike Ramblers we are happy that he has the time to play with us flea bitten hounds. Lyle is an accomplished artist as well as a musician, his instagram here shows some of his work, but if you catch him at a show be sure to ask him to see some more of it.
